Each year, the American Association of Private Railcar Owners (AAPRCO) host
a special trip of all private cars to a different destination over many freight-only rail lines. This year the "Special" begins
in Washington, DC and travels to Chattanooga, TN for the Annual Convention.
Once again, the Scottish Thistle and Pacific Sands will start and end our trip in Los Angeles on the 21 day adventure. The Scottish Thistle has been to every AAPRCO convention in the last twenty years or more, and the Pacific Sands has been its travelling partner for the last seven. This year will be a very special last trip for the Scottish Thistle—a running memorial to Dean McCormick, the long-time owner and operator of the car, who left us earlier this year.
You may take the entire trip or one of the many one-way segment options. You are required to be an AAPRCO member for the Special Train ($90), but not the LA-Washington and return segments.
