Join us for an exciting, early summer trip to two jewels of America's Heartland, Chicago and Kansas City. We will travel in both directions on Amtrak's famous "Southwest Chief" with our own Vista Dome-Lounge and Pullman sleepers.

Departure from Los Angeles on June 22nd will be at 6:15 pm from Los Angeles Union Station. Passengers may board in Fullerton, Riverside and San Bernardino. As we journey toward Cajon Pass, a delightful departure dinner will be served at your seat in the dome, prepared especially by our chef de cuisine. After dinner, slip into your comfortable Pullman berth for a relaxing night's sleep.

June 23—After a Continental Breakfast we arrive in Albuquerque just before noon.  This is a service stop of at least 30 minutes allowing time to stretch your legs or to visit the several sellers of Indian jewelry on an adjacent platform.

After departure, we will climb up into Raton Pass for some truly spectacular scenery.  Lunch and dinner may be taken in the Amtrak diner.  Snacks will be available in the dome-lounge. We will roll across Colorado and Kansas during the night.

June 24—Arrival this morning is in Kansas City, MO about 7:30 am for a scheduled 20 minute stop.  Continental Breakfast will be available in the dome-lounge or you may wish to visit the Amtrak diner for breakfast and lunch.  After crossing the cornfields of Southern Illinois, we will be arriving in Chicago at 3:15 pm this afternoon.  Since our sleeping cars are serving as our hotel, there is no need to transfer or check luggage.  The cars will be serviced in the next few hours and can be occupied this evening in the Amtrak yard.  This facility is near Roosevelt Road and Canal Streets and is accessible for taxis and buses.

June 25—Today is available for shopping, visits to the many outstanding museums, the Willis (Sears) Tower or perhaps a stroll on Navy Pier.  Also there are many restaurants within easy reach.  You can start the day by enjoying a Continental Breakfast in the dome-lounge.  Snacks as well will be available throughout the day. Lunch and Dinner will be on your own.

June 26—We have another day to enjoy the sights around and in Chicago.  A trip to the Illinois Railway Museum can be organized for an additional fee for transportation.  Lunch and dinner are on your own.

June 27—Departure from Chicago to Kansas City is set for 3 pm.  After a Continental Breakfast, the cars will be moved from the yard to the station about 10:30 am.  You may remain on the cars or meet us in Chicago Union Station.  Our arrival in Kansas City is scheduled for 10:11 pm.  Our cars will be detached from the “Southwest Chief” and parked in the station area.

June 28—Today is free to discover and visit the many sights around Kansas City.  Attractions inside the station include Pierpont's and Harvey's Restaurants, as well as the Titanic Artifact Exhibit. If you feel up for a stroll, there are many attractions nearby. The World War I museum, Jack Stack BBQ, the Steamboat Arabia museum in the River Market area, and the Crown Center full of shops and restaurants are just a few blocks from Union Station.  A Continental Breakfast is available in the dome-lounge.  Lunch and dinner are on your own.

June 29—This will be another day to relax and tour in Kansas City.  Lunch and dinner are on your own. Tonight we will be attached to the “Southwest Chief” for our journey back to Los Angeles.

June 30—Since our position at the rear of the train does not allow access to the Amtrak diner, all remaining meals will be available in the dome lounge.  All will be informal buffet style, except the final dinner meal which will be served at your seat in the dome and will feature a delicious entrée.

July 1—Early this morning  we will descend into the Los Angeles Basin through Cajon Pass.  Arrival in Los Angeles will be at 8:15 am.  The end of an exciting Vista Dome adventure to the Midwest Heartland with memories that will last a lifetime.
