Our cars will include a Vista Dome lounge (to Washington, D. C.) and Pullman sleepers throughout our journey. Our itinerary will be:

Wednesday, July 6 – Our departure from Los Angeles will be at the head-end of the “Sunset Limited” bound for New Orleans. This evening we will enjoy a welcome aboard buffet dinner served in the Vista Dome car. After dinner, sit back and relax and enjoy the stars visible in the night sky from the dome.

Thursday, July 7 - We arrive in El Paso, Texas early this morning. All breakfast meals are included throughout our journey and the first continental breakfast can be enjoyed in the comfort of the dome. Lunch and dinner is available on an a la carte basis in the Amtrak diner.

We will travel across Texas today. The wide open spaces are evident everywhere you look. This evening we will arrive in San Antonio for a service stop. Then, it is off to Houston, where we will arrive in the morning.

Friday, July 8 - We depart Houston early this morning and head for New Orleans, arriving about 4 PM. We will traverse the Huey P. Long Bridge as we cross the Mississippi River on our approach to downtown New Orleans. The evening is free to visit the French Quarter or enjoy your favorite restaurant.

Saturday, July 9 – You will have the whole day and evening to enjoy the sights of New Orleans and to sample the wonderful food for which it is famous. Our cars will be serving as our hotel in the Amtrak station.

Sunday, July 10 – Departure this morning is at 7:05 AM on the tail end of the “Crescent” bound for Washington, D.C. Enjoy a continental breakfast or visit the Amtrak diner. Our journey today takes us across Lake Ponchartrain, into Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia including Atlanta. This evening we will be South Carolina and North Carolina. Enjoy the view from the Vista Dome and turn into your comfortable Pullman bed for the evening.

Monday, July 11 – Morning finds us in Virginia, with a variety of scenery. Arrival in Washington, D.C. is scheduled for 10:10 AM. Plan to begin to see the many museums, the Capitol, and monuments while our cars are being serviced. Tonight we will depart for Boston at 10 PM. (We will return to Washington on the 15th for more sightseeing). The Vista Dome will remain in our nation’s capital due to height restrictions for points north.

Tuesday, July 12 – This morning we awake along Long Island Sound near Mystic Seaport and the cities and villages of Rhode Island. Arrival in Boston is scheduled for 8 AM. You will have the rest of the day to visit the many historic sights of Boston, Late this afternoon our cars will be switched from South Station to North Station. We will be able to reboard them in the early evening. Travel to North Station is an easy and quick ride on the subway. Departure for Portland, Maine is at 11:20 PM on Amtrak’s “Downeaster”.

Wednesday, July 13 - After a two hour and twenty minute ride to Portland, we will stay overnight and then return to Boston in the daylight hours on one of the early trains.
