Sleep on a vintage train!
Experience a weekend in sunny San Diego
on a vintage 1950 Pullman Sleeper car
Would you like something truly different and unique to do over a weekend? How about travelling back in time to ride a 1950 Pullman Sleeper from Los Angeles to San Diego, then using your historic Pullman room as your hotel for the weekend? It will be parked right in front of the San Diego Amtrak station, in the heart of downtown, close to everything.
Our Journey Begins
Wave to the crowd along miles of open oceanfront from your private rail car.
You will start your adventure at historic Union Station boarding the Pacific Sands at 7 am on Saturday morning. (You may also start your journey from Fullerton, Santa Ana, Anaheim, Irvine or San Juan Capistrano.) You won’t wait in any lines – as a private car passenger you come straight to the platform and meet your friendly porter for the weekend. We will help you get settled into your room, and as we get underway you will be served complimentary coffee, orange juice, Mimosas and a selection of pastries.
From your comfortable private room you will fly by Orange County, past Disneyland, and the Angels Stadium. Past San Juan Capistrano, we turn on to the beach, where you may want to visit the open vestibule to wave at the beach crowd at the San Clemente pier. We will pass miles of oceanfront past San Onofre, then Oceanside. We will pull into San Diego about 10:04 am, just in time for lunch and a start to your weekend adventure. You will have access to your room during your stay – you may come and go as you please.
Enjoy your great weekend in San Diego.

The Pacific Sands features traditional single person “roomettes” and two person “double bedrooms”. All rooms have toilet/sink facilities, fans, and a small closet. Couples have the choice of a double bedroom, (Upper and Lower berth – climbing a ladder is required for the Upper berth) or in individual “right across the aisle” roomettes.
Two Double Bedrooms may also be joined together to form a suite for more space or a family of four. The car is equipped with a shared shower and all towels and linens are provided, like a hotel. We provide complimentary soft drinks. You may bring your own adult beverages if desired.
Heading back home
Around 9:00 pm Sunday, the Amtrak Surfliner will show up and couple into the Pacific Sands as we prepare for the return trip.
With our vestibule now facing rearward, you can enjoy a view of the tracks and evening scenery on the way back. We will also serve a dessert or snack for your trip back to finish a great weekend of sun and nostalgic rails.
We arrive back at Los Angeles Union Station at 11:57 PM Sunday evening.
